FAQs

Q?

Who handles my payment for courses?

A.

Your security is our number one priority. PayPal combines world class anti-fraud detection with 24/7 account monitoring. Your personal and financial details are securely encrypted to ensure your money and information stays safer when you pay with PayPal.

Q?

What is an Award Course?

A.

An award course is a course comprising 8 or more Units of Competency.   The HDLC utilises up to 20 Units of Competency throughout its course delivery.   Depending on the target audience, a selection of relevant Units are brought together which develop a theme of study.

For example; the Award course (ACSEC01GE12) Certificate I Security Focal Point includes a range of Units designed to give the student the building blocks of knowledge required to act as a junior Security Focal Point in a humanitarian setting.   This course is therefore more vocational in its orientation.

Q?

What is a Short Course?

A.

An short course is a course comprising 7 or less Units of Competency.   The HDLC utilises up to 20 Units of Competency throughout its course delivery.   Depending on the target audience, a selection of relevant Units are brought together which develop a theme of study.

For example; the Short Course (SCSEC01GE12) Basic Safety and Security Awareness includes a range of Units designed to give all humanitarian staff the basic knowledge required to act safely in an humanitarian setting.   This course is therefore more foundation in its orientation.

Q?

Do you recognise prior learning?

A.

HDLC will recognise prior learning if that learning has been conducted with the HDLC and not other third party providers.   Simply put, the HDLC is not in a position to map the learning structures of third party providers over to the HDLC format given it's unique delivery platform.

As some Units of Competency within short courses are also used within Award Courses, the HDLC recommends undertaking our award courses for students who wish to experience the full extent of knowledge available within the HDLC curriculum.

If you have undertaken a short course with us and want to progress to an award course, please complete our Recognition of Prior Learning application for consideration.

Q?

What resources do I need to undertake your courses?

A.

An internet connection, desktop, laptop or even a tablet is all you need to undertake our courses.   Please review our system requirements page for specific technical data.

Q?

How long do I have to complete your course?

A.

Your initial enrolment is for a period of three (3) months.   However, we have worked in the field ourselves, so we know that periods of calm can be punctuated by intense periods of unexpected chaos.

If you find that you need more time, you simply have to contact us through the support tab within your account and request an extension.

Q?

Do you offer refunds if I am not happy with the course content?

A.

No.   Because the delivery of your account and access to it is instantaneous, you are deemed to have received your "goods" according to the HDLC and PayPal refunds policy.

Because you have such instant access you are not considered eligible for a refund once your payment is made.

Our refund policy is not unlike any other form of delivered training, including face to face and offline distance modes.   The responsibility rests on the student to make the right decision prior to enrolment based upon the available information and any information specifically requested.
